Grade 6 in 7 Transition Program

Grade 6 to Year 7 Transition Program

The transition process commences well before your child formally commences at Craigieburn Secondary. We pride ourselves on ensuring a smooth transition program for each and every student.
The below are transition activities prior to your child commencing school.

Open Night – Our Open Night is conducted during Semester 1 and it gives interested parents/carers and students an opportunity to visit the college in the evening, take a tour, hear about the educational programs available, view students’ work and experience the College environment. A presentation will also be given on what the college has to offer Year 7 students.

Grade 5 Discovery Day – Grade 5 students are introduced to a variety of sessions at Craigieburn Secondary College. This allows Grade 5 students to experience a sample of our teaching and learning programs, view our facilities and meet our friendly staff.

Primary School Presentations – The Junior School leaders may visit the local primary schools in Term 1 & 2 to give Grade 5/6 students an interactive presentation on what Craigieburn Secondary College has to offer them. Our Year 7 students who are past students of the primary school also speak to the students about their experiences at the college and how they have settled into life at Craigieburn Secondary College.

Grade 6 Open Day – Grade 6 students are welcomed to Craigieburn Secondary College to participate in a number of Year 7 based subjects to experience what being in Year 7 at Craigieburn Secondary College is like. This allows the Grade 6 students to learn new skills, familiarise themselves with the college and meet our current Junior School students.
Information Evening – An Information Evening is held at the college in November that gives Grade 6 students an opportunity to meet their Form Teacher and to inform parents of the educational process at Craigieburn Secondary College.

Orientation Day – Grade 6 students then attend an Orientation Day on the first Tuesday in December, where they are involved in timetabled classes and orientation activities to give them a taste of life at Craigieburn Secondary College.

The following are transition activities that occur once your child has started Year 7

Ready to Learn Program – The Ready to Learn Program is the first unit of work that the students complete when they arrive at Craigieburn Secondary College. They are introduced to the college values Respect, Responsibility, Achievement and Community’ and student expectations. The students are taught how to effectively use their student management diary, create a homework timetable and develop their personal learning goals. Students are invited to participate in our student leadership program and participate in many icebreaker and ‘Getting to know you’ activities.

Year 7 Camp – The Year 7 Camp further enhances the transition to secondary school. The focus is on teamwork, trust, communication and having fun. Attending Year 7 camp allows students to develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers outside the classroom environment.

Year 7 Family BBQ – Parents and students are invited to attend the Year 7 Family BBQ held in Term 1. This allows parents/carers to meet with their child’s teachers and see first hand how their child has settled into life at Craigieburn Secondary College. Students are able to show their parents their form room and work samples they are proud of. The successful transition into secondary school is celebrated.

We look forward to meeting with you and helping your child successfully transition into secondary school at Craigieburn Secondary College.
