Craigieburn Enrichment and
Acceleration Program (CEAP)
ਦ Craigieburn Enrichment and Accelerated Program (CEAP) is a select entry program designed to support students with high academic ability who have demonstrated readiness for advanced learning. CEAP provides a structured combination of academic acceleration and enrichment, creating a challenging and engaging learning environment.
Through acceleration, students progress through curriculum content at an increased pace based on readiness. Enrichment opportunities extend learning through deeper exploration of complex and abstract concepts, with a strong emphasis on higher order thinking skills.
Established in 2007 with its first Year 7 cohort, CEAP has continued to evolve, offering expanded opportunities for academic challenge, depth of study, and intellectual growth across the secondary years.
Program Overview
CEAP supports students who:
- Have demonstrated high academic ability and readiness for accelerated learning.
- Have consistently performed beyond expected year-level standards.
- Are motivated, curious, and committed to academic challenge.
The program consists of two complementary elements:
Acceleration
Students progress through curriculum content at an accelerated pace based on individual readiness. Acceleration commonly begins in Year 7, particularly in Mathematics, where students may commence Year 8 content. This early acceleration allows eligible students to access VCE subjects earlier in their secondary pathway. Acceleration opportunities may also be implemented in other learning areas where appropriate.
Enrichment
Learning is extended through excursions, incursions, hands-on experiences, and real-world applications. Students explore more complex and abstract concepts with a strong emphasis on higher-order thinking, problem-solving, application-based learning, and mathematical modelling. These enriched learning experiences are designed to deepen understanding across all subject areas.
Through guided teacher facilitation and balanced emphasis on independent and collaborative learning, students develop the skills to research, apply knowledge, and think critically in preparation for senior secondary studies and beyond.
All learning is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum F–10A, with expectations set at an advanced level.
Year-Level Structure and Pathways
Years 7–9
- Students are placed in a dedicated CEAP form group from Year 7, with class sizes capped at no more than 25 students.
- This cohort remains together through Years 7, 8, and 9 for core subjects, except for electives introduced in Year 9.
- Students study the Victorian Curriculum F–10A, supported by significant extension and enrichment opportunities.
End of Year 9 – Pathway Decisions; Year 10
- Core form group remains intact.
- Individual pathways are determined based on achievement, readiness, and future goals.
- Students may undertake a combination of Victorian Curriculum subjects and accelerated VCE studies (VCE Unit 1 & 2 studies in Year 10).
Year 11
- Students typically study a combination of:
- VCE Unit 1 & 2 subjects
- Selected VCE Unit 3 & 4 subjects in areas already completed at Unit 1 & 2 level
Year 12
- Students complete remaining VCE Unit 3 & 4 studies.
- Eligible students may undertake Higher Education Studies (HES) through partner universities or the CHES program, allowing direct study of university-level units alongside VCE.
Student Support and Care
CEAP students are supported by a dedicated team, including:
- Form Teacher
- Year Level PEGs Leading Teacher
- Year Level Assistant Principal
- Leading Teacher for Student High Abilities also referred to as the High Abilities Practice Leader (HAPL). The Leading Teacher for High Abilities is the primary point of contact and oversees students’ academic progress from Year 7 through to Year 12.
Applications and Entry Process
CEAP has one intake point, occurring at Year 7 entry. Applications are made while students are in Grade 6.
Application forms can be:
- Collected from Craigieburn Secondary College reception
- Obtained at College information evenings
- Requested via email from the school
Application Requirements
Completed applications include:
- CEAP application form (completed by parents/carers)
- Teacher endorsement form (completed by the primary school)
- Year 5 NAPLAN results
- Most recent school report (Semester 1)
- Latest PAT results (PAT-M and PAT-R) provided by Grade 6 Teacher
Applications are submitted to the College Front Office by the advertised due date.
Selection Process
The CEAP selection process occurs in three stages:
- Application Review
Review of academic data and supporting documentation (Teacher endorsement form, NAPLAN results, semester report, PAT data). - Shortlisting and Interviews
Shortlisted students are invited to attend an interview. - Assessment (if required)
Additional PAT testing may be conducted at the College to gather the most up-to-date data.
Outcomes are communicated to families by the end of Term 4.
